Our National Emergency Briefing (NEB) film screening and event at the Corrie hall on 18th August 2026 brought 31 people together to watch the People’s Emergency Briefing. 

The film

The 50 minute film, narrated by Chris Packham, highlights a series of Emergency Briefings held by field experts in November 2025 on the impacts of Climate Change covering subjects such as Weather, Climate, Tipping points, Food security, Health, National security, Nature, Economics and Energy transition. The film shows parts of these briefings and the reactions from members of the UK public.

Though the information in the film is quite challenging, all of the briefing speakers present solutions to their respective impacts. There is a lot to be hopeful about as the solutions exist and are available, they just require political will.

Some actions suggested by the NEB team are to promote further screenings (which many attending agreed should be held to ensure more people see the film) and to lobby our MPs to call for a televised emergency briefing. This is the main ask of the campaign; that the government holds a televised briefing (similar to the COVID ones) led by experts and introduced by the government, to shed light on the scale of the challenge that the Climate Crisis presents to life in the UK. The belief behind it is that a National Emergency Briefing will underpin the seriousness of the challenge and will inform and support the response required to meet it. Prior to the event we had invited and written to all of our elected representatives about the film screening and since then our local MP, Irene Campbell, has joined 150 MPs across the UK calling for a televised briefing. At the event we asked participants to thank her and to keep the NEB on her radar to pressure the government into holding a televised briefing.

The discussion

We introduced the film as a ‘scene-setting’ session for our planned program of Community Resilience workshops, which are part of our new Arran Community Climate Action project. The discussion after the screening was held to better understand people’s reactions and feelings to the impacts of Climate Change shown in the film. This was an interactive session with many attendees having quite passionate conversations about the current state of affairs, what needs to be done, and what actions we should take locally. 

We then talked more about our plans to run Community Resilience workshops. Where topics could range from storm preparedness to flooding and water resilience. We collated all the suggestions for further actions into our feedback form and had a very positive response.

Our feedback survey showed:

• All responders enjoyed the event and were supportive of a National Emergency Briefing.
• The discussion prompted a range of further actions which attendees were presented in the survey. Responses showed people wanted to know more about how to counter misinformation and Climate denial, have informal meetups to discuss Climate Change, and that there was interest in a range of workshops (cookery skills, energy events, understanding overconsumption).
• There was interest in all resilience workshop suggestions with ‘preparing for more extreme weather’ being the most popular followed by storm preparedness, flooding and household water resilience.
