You can now pick up free reusable and sustainable period products at Zero Waste Cafes around the island. These are available to all as part of North Ayrshire Councils Period Dignity campaign.
October 21st- 25th was Environmenstrual week. This is an annual event organised by the Women’s Environmental Network to raise awareness of the need for healthy, safe and sustainable periods for everybody.
Certain period products can affect our health, end up in landfill, on our beaches or pollute our oceans for decades. Being able to choose organic or cotton products can come at a cost and isn’t always available to everyone. The cheapest period products are often those with the most potential to damage our health and planet which means that people with the least power have the greatest exposure to potentially harmful products, everyone deserves equal access to healthy, affordable eco-friendly products.
As part of North Ayrshires Fairer Food network, the Zero Waste Cafe can now proudly offer free reusable period products. This includes menstrual cups, washable pads and period underwear as well as cotton pads and tampons. Check out our cafe schedule for when we will be in a village near you. For more information on period dignity and justice see the Wen website here.
