On Saturday 10th February, the Active Travel Hub was buzzing with the sound of wrenches and the laughter of kids eager to get back on their bikes.

Rolling Up Sleeves: Kids’ Bike TLC in Action!

Loose handlebars, shoogly mudguards, sticking brakes, and chain issues were just some of the challenges tackled at our busy Kids’ Bike Maintenance Day!

Wally Wallace and Matt Webb got several bikes back up and running and the Ormidale Pavilion paths offered an excellent space to try out their newly conditioned bikes.

A Well-Received Drop-In

Juliette Walsh, our Active Travel Hub Officer, expressed great satisfaction with the turnout! Parents and their enthusiastic children flocked to The Hub for a free or pay-what-you-can bike check-up. The event aimed to foster a love for active travel in the community.

Gearing up for ‘Beat the Street’ Active Travel Competition

We picked up on growing excitement for the ‘Beat the Street’ Active Travel Competition devised by North Ayrshire Council. The whole of Arran turns into a giant interactive game. Collect points off ‘beat boxes’ attached to lampposts and a series of hidden gems. The idea is to encourage active travel by bike, walking or bus!

It’s not too late to join the ‘Beat the Street’ competition! You can pick up a registration card from the Arran Eco Savvy EcoHub on Tuesdays or the Brodick Library.

This exciting initiative aims to promote sustainable travel and bring the community together in a fun and engaging way.

Eco Savvy’s Ongoing Support for Active Lifestyles

The EcoHub continues to support the community’s active lifestyle by offering bike maintenance services every Tuesday from 11am to 3pm. Furthermore, The hub is planning to establish an Arran residents’ bike library, featuring kids’ bikes available for loan.

Thanks To Our Funders

Paths for All Smarter Choices, Smarter Places Programme helps fund Arran Eco Savvy Active Travel Hub. The fund aims to encourage people to change their behaviours to drive less and to walk or cycle as part of their everyday short journeys or to use public transport for longer journeys.
