On July 16th, Phillipa from from Cycle Scotland delivered a fantastic 1-day Cycle Leader Training course at our Active Travel Hub.
The Cycle Leader course covers all the skills necessary to lead group cycles on quiet roads and cycle paths. This course is designed for confident riders who want to lead group rides. Often with novice or inexperienced riders who want to become more physically active or who are interested in exploring their local area by bike.
On the day of the Cycle Leader Training attendees spent the morning learning all about best practice and safety for group rides.
In the afternoon it was time for the soon to be Cycle Leaders to get out and get to grips with their new training with a practical lesson – a two hour bike ride. This planned route took them up past Merkland Woods and onto Forestry Commission tracks to the Goatfell path and Castle Drive.
They had lots of laughs and a fun day all around, and now we have a team of fully trained Cycle Leaders ready to assist the people of Arran to get active on their bikes via our Cycle Buddy Scheme.
