About the Role
We are looking for a Treasurer to start as soon as possible, allowing time for a smooth handover with our long-serving outgoing Treasurer.
This is a voluntary role, and while unpaid, expenses will be covered.
As Treasurer, you will work alongside other Trustees and our staff team to ensure that Arran Eco Savvy Community SCIO remains financially sound, well-governed, and compliant with charity law and reporting standards.
The Treasurer provides leadership on all aspects of the charity’s financial management and is a key point of contact between the Trustees, project leads, and our external accountants.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor the financial administration of the charity and report regularly to the Board of Trustees.
- Oversee the charity’s financial control and risk management processes.
- Act as a co-signatory on cheques, funding applications, and key financial documents.
- Liaise with external accountants regarding the preparation and review of year-end accounts.
- Support staff and project leads with budget management and funding reports.
- Ensure financial transparency in line with our constitution and the OSCR regulations.
Time Commitment
This role typically requires an average of 8 to 10 hours per week, though this may vary.
The busiest periods are May to July and October to November, when annual accounts, reports, and external examination queries are due.
Some tasks, such as supporting funding applications, may arise at short notice.
You’ll also be expected to attend:
- Monthly Trustee meetings
- Regular budget review meetings with project leads
- Monthly payroll preparation and payments
Skills and Experience
We’re looking for someone with:
- A strong understanding of financial management, bookkeeping, and control principles
- Good financial analysis and reporting skills
- Clear and confident communication abilities
- Independent judgement and the confidence to share informed opinions
- Familiarity with charity accounts and the structure of a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO)
Experience with community organisations, sustainability projects, or the third sector would be an advantage but is not essential.
Why Join Arran Eco Savvy?
By joining our board, you’ll be helping to guide a charity that plays a vital role in Arran’s journey towards net zero and sustainable living.
You’ll work alongside a passionate team of staff and volunteers committed to positive environmental and social change.
