What’s going on this summer in the Community Store?

From Paintings to Plays and welcoming our new Duke of Edinburgh Student.

This summer our Eco Products are playing centre stage! We now stock the broadest range we’ve ever had and the feedback we are receiving is great! We really think we have something for everyone stocked in the shop now.

Helping us to advertise our new products is our very own Duke of Edinburgh Student, Scott McAllistiar. Scott, who’s currently studying at Arran High School has hit the ground running and has designed a range of signs for us to use in our store, which has brightened up the whole shop.

Scott will achieve his Bronze Award through volunteering in the shop for 20 hours between now and January. But not only will be spending time in the shop, he’ll also cover all aspects of the daily running of Eco Savvy. From digital marketing and communications, to joining us at our Zero Waste Cafes, and helping out the Active Travel Team. Through helping out with each strand of Arran Eco Savvy, Scott will be able to transfer these skills to his CV.

From Wet suits to Winter Waterproof’s

As usual we have lots of interesting items looking for a new home. Now is the perfect time to invest in a new wet suit. Or perhaps prepare for winter with some new waterproofs?

The most interesting, and possibly most valuable donation this month is a complete set of Shakespeare Plays. These books along, with other vintage items will be taken over to the Great Western Auction House at the end of the summer to be valued. We will keep you updated on the outcomes!

Paul Kay, one of our volunteers who helps us with specialised photography equipment, sent a Nikon lens to a dealer who sold it for £59! After the commission of 20% was deducted, this raised £45 for the shop.

We are also giving a well known high street book shop a run for its money this month. Did you know our paperbacks are still only 50p? We have lots of PAT Tested electrical products and DIY tools available plus plenty of good quality clothing.

Throughout our store the pricing is kept very low in comparison to mainland pre-loved stores. Pop in anytime between 10:30 and 4:30, Monday to Saturday this summer for some feel good shopping. Where not only are you saving your wallet, you’re helping the environment too!
