Walking is a great way to stay healthy and get fitter as well as being good for our mental health. This autumn the Stroll with It! programme run by North Ayrshire Council’s The Trinity Active Travel Hub in collaboration with KA Leisure’s Walking for Health Project is running regular walks on Arran led by trained volunteer health walk leaders.
Walks last 1 to 1.5 hours, are free, go at a gentle pace, are risk assessed and aim to fit in with bus times. We are delighted to have the support of Arran Ecosavvy’s Active Travel Hub with our shared focus on encouraging low carbon, active and sustainable travel.
Where and When
Walks are every other Tuesday morning in either Brodick, Lamlash or Blackwaterfoot. The Brodick walks start outside Ecosavvy’s base at the Ormidale Pavilion and the Lamlash walks outside COAST’s Discovery Centre with the option of an outside cuppa afterwards at both venues weather permitting. Look out for programme details in Ecosavvy’s newsletters and postings.
We’ve had a great response so far and it’s proving to be very sociable and enjoyable. Hidden gems on our beautiful island are being explored and new friendships made.
Become a volunteer walk leader
We are keen to be able to sustain the walks over the winter and over time maybe widen the locations of walks. We would be delighted to hear from anyone interested in becoming a volunteer walk leader. Training can be arranged which includes a one day Paths for All volunteer walk leader course plus a one day first aid course. Some training is currently being delivered online.
Enquiries about any of the walks or becoming a volunteer walk leader can be made to diana.ecosavvy@gmail.com
